In seinen Anmerkungen zu »Kleine Tiere. 29 missgestaltete Sonette« schreibt Jan Herman: »Große Schönheit aus großer Verzweiflung beugt den Geist. Das ist das Ziel eines jeden Dichters.« Er hat seine Sonette »verschorfte Wunden« genannt. Sie sind die seltenen weltlichen Güter des Dichters, die persönliche Gespenster auf der Seite zum Leben erwecken. Der Literaturkritiker David Erdos nannte sie »Tränen für die Zunge« und »dunkle Diamanten«, »Sonette der Erfahrung, die sogar [William] Blake gefallen würden.« (MÜ Magazine, London). Sie necken manchmal mit Humor und halten die Aufmerksamkeit oft mit dem Versprechen eines Ziels, eines zweifelhaften Abenteuers oder einer obszönen Geschichtsstunde. Und natürlich erhebt die Sterblichkeit mehr als einmal ihr wissendes Haupt: »Sollen wir jetzt weinen / um die Sonne / zurückzulassen, / mit leichtem Bleistift geschrieben?«

Patříte-li mezi obdivovatele majestátnosti kamenných svědků minulosti a nespokojíte-li se s tím, co vám o nich sdělí turistický průvodce, pak držíte v rukou správnou knihu. Je vystavěná na fundovaných textech archeologa Jana Viznera a kresebných rekonstrukcích Jana Heřmana. Najdete v ní kapitoly věnované známým turistickým cílům (Rabí, Loket aj.), ale i místům, jejichž krása zůstává i dnes mnohým skryta (za všechny jmenujme Starý Rybník či Volfštejn).

This is a study of the growth of the right wing in a reunited Germany. Since the end of the Cold War, an explosion of xenophobia and attacks on foreigners - some of them asylum-seekers - has attracted world-wide media attention. Coming after the seemingly miraculous celebration of freedom accompanying the fall of the Berlin Wall and the country's reunification, these events have caused acute anxiety within Germany itself. These phenomena are not exclusive to Germany, but their undertones of Nazism have prompted the question: how could this happen in a country that had so firmly repudiated its past and rightly prided itself on its anti-fascism and liberal democracy? The author sets this development in its historical context, showing the long-established continuity of right-wing influence and power in German conservative politics, and he explores the effects of the end of the Cold War on German society and politics. He also examines the growth of xenophobia and right-wing attitudes in the former GDR since the implosion of communism. Germany's current position as a regional super-power and its contribution to European economic progress, make this text a significant and topical contribution.

Kniha zaujme hned na první pohled unikátní vazbou se speciální reliéfní ražbou. Publikace je nejen graficky skvěle zpracovaná, ale má co nabídnout i obsahově. Je totiž nabitá ověřenými a mnohdy dosud neznámými fakty. Předkládá čtenáři ucelený přehled toho nejdůležitějšího z prvních sta let působení firmy Baťa v jednotlivých zemích světa a podává také vysvětlení stěžejních témat spjatých s její globální expanzí. Úvodní kapitoly nastiňují vývoj firmy Baťa v souvislostech s celosvětovým děním. Poté následuje soupis a detailní rozbor všech zemí, kde firma působila. Na celkem 276 stranách najdete na 453 obrázků, mezi nimi jsou i některé vůbec prvně publikované. Téměř dvě stě map a tabulek dokresluje výklad a zlepšuje tak přehlednost a orientaci v jednotlivých skutečnostech. Knihu uzavírají kompletní seznamy baťovských sesterských společností a továren.

Poutavou formou psaná publikace, která nás provede vývojem historie leteckého průmyslu u firmy Baťa, oslovila mnoho čtenářů, a proto vychází v novém doplněném vydání. Kniha seznamuje s mezikontinentálními na tehdejší dobu unikátními obchodními lety, které provozoval Tomáš Baťa a jeho obchodní vyslanci po celém světě. Přináší nejen nové informace a souhrn všech dálkových letů, ale také vypráví o jejich průběhu, lidech, kteří se jich účastnili, a vzpomínkách na zajímavé nebo nebezpečné události. Součástí knihy je také přehled a další osudy baťovských pilotů a historie baťovských letišť. Publikace obsahuje více jak 100 archivních fotografií výstřižků z dobového tisku, ilustrací a map.

Kniha od autora, který zemřel v roce 1943, a která doposud nebyla vydána. Vydání připravili Jan Herman a Zdeněk Pokluda. František X. Hodáč žil od roku 1939 ve Zlíně, kde založil a řídil národohospodářské oddělení Studijního ústavu Baťových závodů. Krátce byl také členem dozorčí rady společnosti Baťa. Pracoval na rozsáhlé monografii o Tomáši Baťovi, ale dílo nestihl do své smrti dokončit.
