Prof. Dr. med. habil. Klaus Gottschalk, born in 1937 in Pethau, Kreis Zittau, studied medicine in Greifswald from 1955 to 1960, earning his doctorate in 1962 and specializing in sports medicine in 1968. He worked as a sports physician for the Wintersportklub Vorwärts Erfurt/Oberhof (1961-1963) and served as the leading sports physician at ASK Vorwärts Leipzig (1963-1970). He was an associate physician at FKS Leipzig from 1970 to 1980 and became a university lecturer in 1979. From 1980 to 1987, he led the sports medicine research area at DHfK and held a professorship in sports medicine. He continued as a professor at the University of Halle-Wittenberg from 1987 to 1992. His roles included serving as the medical officer for the German Fencing Association (1963-1972) and holding various leadership positions in sports organizations, including president of the Landessportbund Sachsen-Anhalt (1992-1998) and the Disabled and Rehabilitation Sports Association of Sachsen-Anhalt (1990-1998). He has published around 120 scientific works. Waldemar Cierpinski, born in 1950 in Neugattersleben, became a sports teacher after graduating high school. He won two Olympic gold medals in the marathon at the 1976 and 1980 Games and was world champion in 1983. He worked as an athletics coach for two decades and is the author of "Meilenweit bis Marathon." Currently, he runs a business in the sports industry and is a member of the NOK Deutschland.
