Babarc-Szabadföldek, located in the Danubian Plain at the Mecsek mountains' foothills north of Pécs, features Neolithic chernozem soil over loess. Investigations included field walking, scientific surveys, air surveys, phosphate mapping, and excavations. Findings reveal Late Roman burials analyzed anthropologically and a double-phased villa rustica used from the late 2nd century until 280 and again from around 320 to 380. Artifacts from the site comprise coins, dress accessories, jewelry, military items, horse gear, household items, furniture, tools, construction elements, and fittings, alongside significant glass and pottery remains. The pottery collection includes plain and decorated Samian Ware as well as various household wares in grey, red, and glazed finishes. Additionally, remains of wall paintings, 1,068 animal bones from both domestic and wild species, archaeobotanical remains, and indications of the Latène D and Roman context of the site are presented.
