Showing historical, courtly, religious and literary topics, Indian miniatures give great details of life and activities of former times. As such they are rich source for culture historical and ethnological research. On many of these miniatures the depiction of drugs and intoxicants like betel, tobacco, wine, cannabis and opium are found. These have their own cultural and religious importance both in the Islamic-Mughal and Hindu-Rajput India.
