This volume is a collection of essays from economics, demography, sociology and geography on the topic of remittances and international migration in Mexico and Latin America. These mostly empirical studies look at the complexities of the effects of remittances in towns, states andcountries. Together they attempt to shed some light on the various ways in which these flows are utilized and enhanced in order to have a positive impact on remittance receiving households. We sincerely hope that these multidisciplinary perspectives can add to our understanding of the most salient characteristic of international migration and be useful for policy makers in migrant sending countries.
