At first glance Beate Höing’s paintings and ceramics seem old-fashioned, conventional and even kitschy. At second glance a certain degree of doubt befalls the viewer. What at first seem like peaceful pictorial worlds quickly emerge on closer inspection as an ambivalent, treacherous concord full of innuendo and references to childhood reminiscences and experiences. The occasion for the publication of this catalogue is the exhibition taking place at the Beckum City Museum from 26 August to 14 October 2012. There will be other exhibitions later in the Gütersloh District Art Association (January 2013) and in the Siegburg City Museum (October 2013).
