More about the book

This book examines questions of environmental ethics in terms of interdenominational consensus and, hence, starting points for more intensive ecumenical cooperation, but also in terms of communication barriers, misunderstandings and possible points of disagreement. The author thereby focusses on endeavours to justify environmental ethics. She compares catholic and protestant ecclesiastical publications and texts of selected German-language theologians of both denominations. In a next step, she enquires into the causes for the distinctions found. In some cases, they derive from different forms of language, but the respective doctrinal history and principles of environmental ethics are also taken into account. The concept of sustainability could serve as an opportunity for continued cooperation and societal acceptance in the future.
