More about the book
This book offers an overview of key research findings and case studies on education and skills for inclusive growth, green jobs, and the greening of economies, with a focus on India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Viet Nam. It discusses responses from government and the business sector, highlighting how Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) systems are renewing curricula and adapting training to meet green growth demands. The text explores cross-country issues related to education and skills for inclusive growth and green jobs, addressing critical themes in industry sectors that drive demand for green jobs, industry responses, obstacles to transitioning from traditional to green practices, and the significance of skills development. It also examines the role of TVET in meeting industry needs and the reasons behind its slow adaptation to green skills. Unlike other studies that rely on secondary sources, this research by the Asian Development Bank and the Education University of Hong Kong is based on primary data collected through surveys and interviews with TVET providers, businesses, policymakers, and practitioners. Workshops in each country gathered insights from key stakeholders, including government officials, NGOs, and the international development community. Additionally, the book summarizes case studies from the four countries.
