Beginning her writing career in 1848, she published around 100 novels, with "The Heir of Redclyffe" marking her first major success. The profits from her novels often supported charitable initiatives, including the Southern Cross schooner. Additionally, she served as the long-time editor of the Monthly Packet, a magazine aimed at British Anglican girls, showcasing her commitment to education and moral values.
