More about the book
The story revolves around a young man of extraordinary beauty who, fearing the signs of aging, makes a pact that allows his portrait to bear the marks of time instead of his face. Indulging in a life of excess and pleasure, he ultimately faces the consequences of his actions. After killing the painter who confronts him about his moral decay, he stabs the portrait in a fit of despair, only to die himself. The portrait reverts to its original state, while he is left as a corrupted, aged figure, highlighting themes of vanity, morality, and the duality of human nature.
