Set in an alternative 2011, the narrative explores the Mental Parity movement, which posits that all humans possess equal intelligence, leading to the dismissal of traditional measures like tests and grades. Pearson Converse, a college instructor disillusioned by this dogma and frustrated by its impact on her gifted children, grapples with her beliefs and the societal changes around her. Her friendship with a media commentator becomes strained as their differing views on the movement create an insurmountable rift, challenging their lifelong bond.
