Set against the backdrop of a picturesque West Country town, the story unfolds as Mark Treasure, a merchant banker, gets embroiled in a murder mystery linked to a convent's substantial assets. Tasked by the local bishop to oversee the convent's finances, he soon finds himself investigating the suspicious deaths of two individuals associated with the convent and a devastating arson attack.
