Polysaccharide based hydrogels as GIT drug delivery devices

Focusing on the need for targeted drug delivery systems to the colon, this work highlights the limitations of systemic drug administration and the associated side effects. It emphasizes the potential of polymer-based hydrogels, particularly those derived from polysaccharides, for controlled and sustained drug release. The article explores various modifications of these polysaccharides to enhance their effectiveness in colon-targeted therapies and examines key factors influencing drug release rates. Additionally, it discusses specific polysaccharides utilized in these applications.
