More about the book
A Parisian doctor, disillusioned and weary of his dissipated lifestyle, moves to a village in Savoy where, with commitment and dedication, he works to improve the life of the community, which rewards him by electing him mayor. The reconstruction of the small universe of the village, the description of its interiors and peasant customs, and the long conversations of the doctor-mayor offer intense and effective pages from which a great variety of portraits, detailed profiles, and simple sketches come to life.
