Characterisation of women in the plays of Bertolt Brecht
Authors
More about the book
On the basis of a survey of theoretical statements on character delineation in drama the author examines Brecht's position on the issue. An introductory analysis of women characters in general is followed by a chapter on the women who played a role in Brecht's life. The central part of the study is a detailed analysis of almost all women characters in Brecht's plays. In conclusion, the author advances the thesis that utopia is the unmistakable, though concealed, goal of all of Brecht's plays, with women assuming the part of the midwives of that utopia.
