After Halley's Comet was destroyed in a magical battle in 1759, the event known as The Sundering separated the New World from the Old, transforming America into a land where magic thrives and history is forever altered. In this new 1803, young Meriwether Lewis attends a lecture by the esteemed wizard Benjamin Franklin in St. Louis, only for it to be interrupted by a winged, fire-breathing creature reminiscent of his Welsh legends. Following the chaos, Franklin reveals a looming evil in the uncharted Arcane Territories west of the Mississippi. He commissions Lewis and his skilled partner William Clark to embark on an extraordinary expedition to explore, document indigenous tribes, and seek a route to the Pacific Ocean—and possibly beyond the magical barrier to Europe. While the Sundering has granted the original colonists unexpected magical abilities, it has also sparked sorcery inspired by native legends. The Arcane Territories promise both natural and magical perils for the journey. Joined by the brilliant shape-shifting sorceress Sacajawea, Lewis and Clark set out on an unparalleled adventure across a landscape untouched by European eyes.
