Initiated by Jeppe Hein and Finn Janning this anthology is an encounter of two concepts: vital and coincidence - the driving forces in our everyday life and culture. Upon the invitation to this simple, though yet thought provoking preposition by the Danish artist and his fellow philosopher a range of writers, artists and friends have contributed with an array of different responses. Ranging from deeper philosophical investigations, humorous memories of live and art, appreciations of Jeppe Hein’s work to original brief artistic contributions the anthology is a well-balanced selection filled with intelligent, readable and witty responses. Moreover ‘The Vital Coincidence’ is the only English language publication dealing with the concept of chance in contemporary art.

Baiers Raumbegriff ist radikal. Es läßt sich nach Baier kein Phänomen denken, was nicht auch durch räumliche Aspekte bestimmt ist, gleichzeitig hat jedes Phänomen räumliche Konsequenzen. Der so beschriebene weite - oder gelebte - Raum besitzt einen hohen Erklärungswert und führt zu Handlungsbedarf auf den verschiedensten Ebenen. Weil dieser Raumbegriff eben nicht euklidisch, geometrisch ist, führt Baiers phänomenologische Untersuchung zu einer ganz neuen Sicht auf die Dimensionen von Architektur, auf Kunst, und in dieser Hinsicht ungewohnt, auf die verschiedensten Lebensbereiche.
