Nature and imagination unite in Gianni Caravaggio’s installations.Italian artist Gianni Caravaggio creates poetic sculptures and installations that aim to evoke the experience of being in nature. Focusing on the essential union between humans and nature, Caravaggio uses unconventional materials such as talcum powder, sugar, and lentils in combination with more traditional materials like bronze, marble, wood, and paper. His works are often presented directly on the floor, functioning as a gateway into a new realm of perception and memory. Focused on the relationship between material, space, time, and man, Caravaggio’s works are not meant to be representative, but rather convey the idea of nature as “pure perception,” a concept defined by Russian artist Kazimir Malevich. Illustrated with fifty color images, Gianni When Nature was Young offers an introduction to the artist’s unique oeuvre.

Zur Bedeutung des Moments in der künstlerischen Fotografie Kann es Fotografien geben, die konkrete Orte repräsentieren? Angesichts der täglich verfügbaren Bilderflut erscheint diese Frage zunächst überflüssig. Erst bei genauer Betrachtung zeigt sich die Distanz zwischen der visuellen Erfahrbarkeit von Orten und den davon generierten Medienbildern. „Es gibt nichts auf der Welt, das nicht einen entscheidenden Augenblick hätte“, stellte Henri Cartier-Bresson einmal fest. Das Buch untersucht diesen spezifischen Moment und geht der Frage nach, wie künstlerische Fotografie die Kluft zwischen raumbezogener Realität und fotografischem Bild beschreiben und das Gegenwärtige zum Zeitpunkt der Aufnahme sichtbar machen kann. This publication documents the survey exhibition Shirin Neshat. Frauen in Gesellschaft in the Kunsthalle Tübingen (2017). It assembles important works from all of Shirin Neshat's creative phases, from the iconic typographically inscribed photographs of the Women of Allah series to the multiple award winning single and multi-channel video installations, to the monumental blocks of work like The Book of Kings and the new productions from 2016/17 which have never been seen in Europe. The programmatic title of the exhibition identifies two recurring themes in the oeuvre of the artist: the role of the woman in Islamic societies and the repercussions of traumatic, diaspora related experiences which a woman carries with her from that point on for the rest of her life.
