This study explores how the Production of native (L1) and non-native (L2) vowels is affected by consonantal context in which vowels occur. It demonstrates that Languages differ in the Extent to which flanking consonants affect the acoustic properties of vowels and that L2 speakers typically transfer the Language-specific patterns of the L1 to the L2.
