A Prussian general and military historian, this author achieved bestseller status prior to World War I. He was a staunch militarist, perhaps best known for his bellicose work, "Germany and the Next War" (1911). In it, he advocated a policy of ruthless aggression and complete disregard for treaties, viewing war as a "divine business." His writings reflect an unyielding stance on international relations and a justification of military conflict.
