Ladislav Zibura is a Czech explorer, writer and journalist.
A traveller on foot to the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, he also walked to Santiago de Compostela and Rome, and cycled to the North Sea and back. Ladislav is one of those special people you either like or hate. On Facebook, he made pilgrimage and himself famous for his peculiar humour, and the Budějovický Majáles festival with his banner campaign. Although Ladislav loves company and people, he has been spending every summer in solitude for 4 years. Outside of Jerusalem, he set off on foot to Santiago de Compostela and Rome, then by bicycle to the North Sea and back. When he invited his Brno friends to a café to show photos from his travels, 2400 people signed up. And so, at the age of 22, he decided to fulfill his dream - to travel around the country and allow thousands of people to go with him on a spectacular journey full of incredible experiences in a single evening.
Biography
People from the career center told me that without a structured CV it would be difficult for me to find a job. So I wrote one. I'm just afraid that finding a job will be even harder with him.
1992: I broke through to the world between my mother's labia.
1992: I started potty. Before other children. This is where the era of my dating begins.
1997: I broke my leg while bobsledding. I've had my leg in a cast for several months. My grandfather takes care of me. Through the book The Ignorant in the Sun City, he introduces me to the issue of class struggle.
1998: I learned to read. And also to hate his teacher, Mrs. Dáša. In the book Honzík's Journey, she skipped the chapter "Cooperative eggs". She believed in capitalism. She knew nothing about the world.
2000: Dr. Hřídelová diagnoses me overweight for the first time. When my mother first refuses to give me an adult portion for dinner, she cowers in the corner, expecting a beating. It's a futile effort. I always find a way to eat.
2003: I start an eight-year grammar school. I participate in math, physics and language Olympiads. But I am most popular at chess tournaments. When I arrive, everyone knows that they won't be the last.
2006: I start running, I stop eating, I lose weight. In this case, the onset of anorexia nervosa is a form of self-reflection. I lose 15 kilograms in 4 months.
2009: I start to organize the Budějovický Majáles festival with my friends. In the course of the following years, I appeared in articles such as "Rain, mud, cold, Budějovický Majáles lost 140 thousand", "Cycling was banned by the police" or "Students destroyed a park in the city center".
2011: I set out on my first pilgrimage – to Santiago de Compostela. On the 900 km long journey, I meet inspiring people from all over the world. I find that despite what I used to think, the world doesn't belong only to me. I will finally learn to pronounce the English "th". On the way back, I accidentally fly to the wrong airport, I hitchhike home.
2011: I start studying at the Faculty of Law of Charles University. I fall in love with my classmate Ivy, who rejects me. This proves her good taste. In addition, it turns out that I am not from a family of lawyers and I want to defend the innocent – I understand that there is no point in further study.
2012: I'm going on my second pilgrimage – to Rome. My friend Michal accompanies me to Innsbruck. We are united by hunger, love of literature and a tent for one person. After 1400 kilometers I come to the Vatican to my destination – St. Peter's Cathedral. The security guards don't let me in.
2012: I start studying journalism at Masaryk University. Brno will grow on me, even though trams don't run underground there. I really like my introverted classmate. I use the same strategy as she does – I don't talk. We haven't spoken for 3 years.
2013: I'm tired of walking, my friend Michal and I go cycling to the North Sea. This time, Michal is disconnecting from me outside Prague. All I have left is a map of Berlin from a second-hand bookshop. By mistake I arrive at the Baltic Sea. It is not salty and there are only pensioners on the beach. Disappointed, I return home via Berlin. In Berlin I find out that the whole western part of the city is missing from my map from the second-hand bookshop.
2014: For the first time, I create something that people like. The campaign I created for the Budějovický Majáles festival is said to be funny. It can be described in 3 foreign words – self-irony, mystification and ego-masturbation. My colleagues from the festival are so grateful that they are returning my debt from 2011. I receive several job offers.
2014: I get a job at Proof & Reason. They pay me money for writing lyrics for them. We have free coffee in the office. My mom is proud of me. And I'm finally getting rid of the bad habit of giving people in bars my insurance card instead of a business card.
2014: I receive my Bachelor's degree. I earned it for my studies of media studies at Charles University. My bachelor's thesis on the topic "I did a campaign for the festival – look how clever I am" is not very much liked by my opponent. However, the situation is saved by my bachelor's thesis supervisor, with whom we hit it off at the first (and last) consultation.
2014: I'm walking from Turkey to Jerusalem. On the 1400-kilometer journey, the only thing that connects me to the world of vaccinated whites is the Amazon Kindle 3 electronic book reader with 3G internet. On the way, I lose prejudices, part of my hearing and basic hygiene habits. What fascinates me most about Jerusalem is the Wailing Wall. I'm just sorry that people don't bother to go to the trash with the papers and put them in such a nice souvenir. I also experience a rocket alert at the airport. But he lets us out of the shelter before I turn on the camera, so it's completely useless.
2015: I will complete a 3-month internship at Czech Radio. My colleagues like me so much that they let me cover attractive topics such as the death of bees, news from the oncology hospital or the increase in the number of visitors to border brothels.
