Und da Berlin sich standhaft weigert, über Nacht zu New York zu werden, muss sich der Manhattaner in einen Berliner verwandeln. Aber das ist nicht leicht. In seiner neuen Heimat bleiben sogar Punks an roten Ampeln stehen. Es gibt tatsächlich noch Raucher, und die Freude über die Verheißung sexueller Freizügigkeit wird durch die für amerikanische Verhältnisse mangelhafte Hygiene stark geschmälert. Hier heißt der Götze nicht Konsum, sondern Preisleistungsverhältnis. Und andere Wörter sind auch nicht kürzer. Es ist ein Ort, an dem man nur dann nicht durchdreht, wenn man sich an die bizarren Regeln hält. Ralph Martins Häutung ist schmerzhaft – und verdammt lustig.
