Jan der Hartog

    Jan de Hartog was a Dutch novelist, playwright, and screenwriter, primarily known for his maritime novels. Early in his career, he also penned five detective novels featuring Commissioner Wiebe Poesiat and Inspector Gregor Boyarski of the metropolitan harbor police under the pseudonym F.R. Eckmar. He relocated to the United States in the early 1960s, became a Quaker, and subsequently wrote in English. His seafaring narratives form a significant part of his literary contributions.
