Despite significant investments in renewable energy, current supplies are insufficient to meet energy demands. Saudi Arabia, the fastest-growing economy on the Arabian Peninsula, has seen its power generation capacity rise from 25,790 MW in 2000 to 39,242 MW in 2008, a 52% increase. The UAE aims to establish a civilian nuclear power program, with planning dating back to 2006, and is among around 15 Middle Eastern countries interested in nuclear energy, including Kuwait, Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. The UAE government plans to have several reactors operational by 2020 to meet one-third of its electricity needs. This analysis targets German consultancy firms to help assess their strategic deployment and prioritize entry into this new market.
