Jan Skácel

    February 7, 1922 – November 7, 1989

Jan Skácel was one of the most prominent Moravian poets of the 20th century. His work often juxtaposed the fear stoked by the communist regime in Czechoslovakia with the free syntax of the Czech language. His poems are deeply connected to the traditions and nature of his native region, Southern Moravia. Skácel also served as the editor of the significant literary magazine Host do domu between 1963 and 1969.
