The First A4Cloud Summer School has been one of the first events in the area of accountability and security in the cloud. It was organized by the EU-funded A4Cloud project, in collaboration with the European projects CIRRUS, Coco Cloud, CUMULUS, and SPECS. Cloud computing is a key technology that is being adopted progressively by companies and users across different application domains and industries. Yet, there are emerging issues such as security, privacy, and data protection. The 13 contributions included in this volume cover the state of the art and provide research insights into the following topics: accountability in the cloud; privacy and transparency in the cloud; empirical approaches for the cloud; socio-legal aspects of the cloud; cloud standards; and the accountability glossary of terms and definitions.

The book explores the classification of socio-technical hazards to better understand risks associated with technological innovation. It delves into the mechanisms that contribute to emerging technological risks, offering insights into how these hazards can be identified and managed. Through this framework, readers can gain a clearer perspective on the complexities of risk in the context of advancing technology.

The European Commission highlights the emerging dependability requirements in the information society, driven by the prevalence of embedded and networked systems and the complexity of large-scale information and communication infrastructures. The Conference on Computer Safety, Reliability, and Security (Safecomp) addresses these needs by reviewing current trends and experiences in relevant scientific and industrial areas. Safecomp serves as a platform for technology transfer among academia, industry, and research institutions, fostering the exchange of ideas and insights among experts. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Safecomp, which began with its first conference organized by EWICS in Stuttgart in 1979. The Proceedings celebrate this milestone by including 25 orally presented papers and the full versions of 14 poster presentations, all selected from 76 submissions. The papers primarily focus on Safety Assessment and Human Factors, Verification and Validation, Design for Safety, Formal Methods, and Security, aligning closely with the core themes of Safecomp.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed, selected papers on Cyber Security and Privacy EU Forum 2013, held in Belgium, in April 2013. The 14 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from various submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on cloud computing, security and privacy management, security and privacy technology, security and privacy policy.
