An integrative and holistic understanding of personal online reputation management
    • The Internet has sparked a revolutionary shift, connecting people digitally and integrating activities like chatting, event organizing, knowledge exchange, and dating into daily life. This digital transformation has led to a wealth of personal information being available online, shaping individuals' online reputations, which can indicate reciprocity, credibility, or competence. However, this also presents risks, as anyone can create detailed profiles of others for harmful purposes, such as defamation or social engineering. Consequently, managing one’s online reputation is increasingly crucial for both self-presentation and self-protection. Despite its importance, recent studies reveal that individuals often engage minimally in online reputation management. The existing research landscape on this topic is fragmented, lacking insights into the motivations and barriers that prevent effective management. Addressing this gap, the dissertation offers a comprehensive perspective on personal online reputation management, enhancing understanding of the process both on and off social media platforms. Additionally, it examines how individuals perceive legal changes that grant them the right to remove information from the web, contributing valuable insights to the field.
