Edward Stillingfleet was a prominent churchman and writer of his era. His extensive personal library, comprising some 10,000 volumes, was acquired and now forms a significant part of Marsh's Library in Dublin. He left a legacy as a scholarly figure and an active participant in public life, demonstrating an interest in moral reform.
