A mother sentenced to prison for shooting a rapist and murderer of her seven-year-old daughter.
Marianne Bachmeier (3 June 1950 Lübeck - 17 September 1996) was a German woman who in 1981 shot Klaus Grabowski, a man on trial for the rape and murder of her daughter Anna (14 November 1972 - 5 May 1980), at the Lübeck District Court. The case caused widespread media coverage and public debate. As a result, Bachmeier was convicted of manslaughter and illegal possession of a firearm. She was sentenced to six years and was paroled after serving three years. Bachmeier moved abroad but returned to Germany after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She died at the age of 46 and was buried next to her seven-year-old daughter Anna in Burgtor Cemetery in Lübeck.
