Hans-Peter Duttle's early life was shaped by his father's diplomatic career, leading him from Beirut to postings in Bolivia and Peru. After completing his education in Switzerland, he embarked on a life of extensive travel and exploration. He developed a strong aversion to Western consumer society, seeking life's meaning in more elemental environments. His adventures took him to a dangerous, unsanctioned expedition on Everest, the Arctic, teaching among the Inuit, and working with indigenous communities in the Peruvian highlands.
