José Gaos Books
José Gaos was a Spanish philosopher who, after seeking political asylum in Mexico during the Spanish Civil War, emerged as one of the most important Mexican philosophers of the 20th century. His philosophical inquiries were deeply influenced by German thought, particularly Edmund Husserl's phenomenology and the works of Martin Heidegger, as well as by his teacher José Ortega y Gasset. Gaos distinguished himself not only as an original thinker but also as a profoundly prolific translator, crucially making key works of German philosophers, including Heidegger's 'Being and Time,' accessible to the Spanish-speaking world. His legacy endures through his extensive writings and archives in Mexico City, where he profoundly shaped contemporary philosophical discourse.
