Charles Upham

    Charles Wentworth Upham was a historian whose work primarily focused on the Salem witch trials of the late 17th century and the history of Massachusetts. A vocal opponent of the Transcendentalist movement, he also wrote and spoke extensively on Protestant religion. His extensive political career included multiple terms in the Massachusetts State House and Senate, a stint as Mayor of Salem, and a term in the U.S. Congress.
