The book is based on amateur films, shot by the architect Ernest Weissmann (1903-1985) with a Pathé Motocamera in the years 1929-1933 at, among other places, the Atelier Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret. These films capture moments from Le Corbusier's life that have never been seen before. It also documents his friendships with Pierre Jeanneret, Lluis Sert, Charlotte Perriand, Norman Rice, Kunio Maekawa, Sigfried Giedion and others.

This year's edition of the annual, with contributions by renowned authors, presents the shortlist of 26 buildings selected by a jury for the 2020 DAM Prize for Architecture in Germany. Architects, architectural critics, and curators of the museum visited around 100 nominated buildings to determine the shortlist. The volume also offers a portrait of three outstanding projects by German architects realized in a foreign country. This year's winner of the DAM Prize is the James-Simon-Galerie in Berlin by the London-based practice David Chipperfield Architects. The finalists included: the new taz building in Berlin by EA Piet Eckert and Wim Eckert Architekten; the entrance building for the Glentleiten Open-Air Museum in Großweil (Upper Bavaria) by Florian Nagler Architekten; a new mixed-use development overlooking the Peterskirchhof cemetary in Frankfurt am Main by NKBAK Architekten; and the residential building 'einfach gebaut' in Berlin by orange architekten. The book also offers an in-depth interview with architect Peter Wilson on the challenges of building in Albania as well as an essay by Reiner Nagel on the importance of engaging with rural places. Kuratoren des Museums sowie renommierte Architekten und Architekturkritiker sichteten dazu ein Feld von rund 100 Nominierungen für den Jahrgang. In der Ausgabe 2018 wird neben der besonderen Würdigung des Gewinners des DAM Preis auch die engere Auswahl von Finalisten näher porträtiert. Als exzeptionelles Projekt ist die Elbphilharmonie von der Shortlist ausgenommen und findet im Jahrbuch eine besondere Erwähnung. Ein eigenes Kapitel ist den Bauten deutscher Architekten im Ausland gewidmet, von denen zwei Gebäude vorgestellt werden. Zwei Essays thematisieren zum einen das Hamburger Modell der Grundstücksvergabe zur Stärkung von Baugemeinschaften sowie zum anderen den aktuellen Boom der Theater- und Musikarchitekturen.
For almost fourty years now, the German Architecture Annual, issued by Deutsches Architekturmuseum of Frankfurt am Main (DAM), has published crucial information about ongoing construction projects in Germany. In a review by wellknown authors, the German Architecture Annual presents a shortlist of twenty German buildings, determined by the jury for the 2017 DAM Prize for Architecture in Germany. The museum's curators, as well as renowned architects and architectural critics, have an overview of one hundred nominations for the year. In the 2017 edition, in addition to the Special Appreciation for the winner of the DAM Prize for Architecture in Germany, a finer selection of finalists is being portrayed for the first time. A separate chapter is devoted to buildings by German architects abroad, in, which three buildings are presented. The essays deal with the urgent topic regardingthe future of housing construction, as well as Germany being represented abroad through educational and cultural buildings.
Zeichenhaft und funktional: Ein Gebäude für den Euro Mit dem Neubau der Europäischen Zentralbank ist am östlichen Rand der Frankfurter Innenstadt ein außerordentliches Beispiel stadtbildprägender zeichenhafter Architektur entstanden. Entworfen wurde das funktionale Ensemble aus Büroturm und Umnutzung der denkmalgeschützten Großmarkthalle von dem Wiener Architekturbüro Coop Himmelb(l)au. Die Handelshalle des ehemaligen Frankfurter Großmarkts galt Ende der 1920er-Jahre mit einer Länge von 220 Metern als die größte stützenfreie Eisenbetonkonstruktion Europas. Nach einer aufwändigen Sanierung der Halle wurden als „Haus im Haus“ neue Funktionen wie Konferenzbereich und Mitarbeiterrestaurant eingestellt. Für die Neugestaltung des vormals versiegelten zwölf Hektar großen Areals haben sich Vogt Landschaftsarchitekten (Schweiz) an Auenlandschaften orientiert.
