      The book introduces a novel concept to address sustainability and enviromental consciousness for factories considering that factory planning nowadays is characterized by the need to involve multidisciplinary experts and integrating planning tasks depending on the specific planning case. The concept consists of a general philosophy and vision to enable a target setting according to a specific planning case and provides a tool for the selection of most important planning activities. Those planning activities are integrated to modules, whose tasks and proceedings for each planning expert involved are described to specifiy a green factory. In addition, methods and tools to support the specification are identified and embedded in an overall evaluation concept. While existing approaches focus on generality but do not address environmental aspects in a case-specific way, the Green Factory Planning is the first of its kind planning approach that enables a group of experts to plan a factory environmental-consciousness through adressing interfaces among factory elements while focusing on the most important drivers for green performance in a specific case.

      „Man muss sich die Gelüste des Menschen als ein Meer aus bunten Murmeln vorstellen. Unmöglich, sie alle zu zählen. Und ständig findet man eine, die man noch nicht kannte.“ Ein Session-Teilnehmer beschreibt die Reise des Fotografen Florian Müller, der in seinem Werk die Urgelüste und Bedürfnisse menschlicher Existenz in Deutschland erforscht. Das gängige Bild fetischistischer Sexualität ist oft von Gewalt und Klischees geprägt, doch Müllers Fotografien zeigen eine vielschichtige Realität. Auf den ersten Blick erscheinen seine Bilder schwarz-weiß, doch bei näherem Hinsehen offenbaren sie zahlreiche Grautöne und Schattierungen. Über mehrere Jahre hinweg hat Müller das „Candy Crush Project“ entwickelt, in dem er Menschen portraitiert, die in der Gesellschaft oft als „pervers“ abgestempelt werden. Diese Personen suchen jedoch nicht nach Stigmatisierung, sondern haben durch ihren Fetisch ein erfüllteres Leben gefunden. Der Fotograf hat ihr Vertrauen nicht missbraucht, sondern sie ernst genommen und Klischees vermieden. Seine Bilder sind nah und fast zärtlich, zeigen intime Momente und die Suche nach grundlegenden menschlichen Bedürfnissen wie Freiheit, Wärme und Glück. Müller betont, dass die meisten Sessions erschreckend harmlos sind und die Menschen in seinen Bildern eine sinnstiftende Verbindung zu sich selbst und anderen suchen.

      Automatic speech recognition systems have to handle various kinds of variabilities sufficiently well in order to achieve high recognition rates in practice. One of the variabilities that has a major impact on the performance is the vocal tract length of the speakers. Normalization of the features and adaptation of the acoustic models are commonly used methods in speech recognition systems. In contrast to that, a third approach follows the idea of extracting features with transforms that are invariant to vocal tract lengths changes. This work presents several approaches for extracting invariant features for automatic speech recognition systems. The robustness of these features under various training-test conditions is evaluated and it is described how the robustness of the features to noise can be increased. Furthermore, it is shown how the spectral effects due to different vocal tract lengths can be estimated with a registration method and how this can be used for speaker normalization.

      Electronic memory, encompassing computing hardware and software that enhances our biological memories, embodies the vision of the MEMEX by Vannevar Bush. In an era of ubiquitous computing, our digital shadows—representations of our lives—extend beyond individual documents to encompass continuous activities, interconnected with others' digital shadows through social data and software. This thesis presents a concept for a future metaverse archive, an electronic memory infrastructure aimed at preserving, evaluating, and disseminating the information we gather throughout our lives. The first case study introduces the Permanent Visual Archive (PEVIAR) as a solution to digital preservation, addressing the challenges of long-term information retention despite the abundance of electronic storage. PEVIAR provides a stable, accessible, and authentic form of electronic memory, albeit static. The second case study evaluates social data, using email communications from 151 Enron employees to reconstruct and analyze their social network. It demonstrates how physical simulations can visualize complex networks while preventing information overload, serving as a basis for further analysis with established graph metrics. The third study explores context-aware display technologies, particularly mixed reality, as essential for capturing and disseminating our digital corpora.
