Eli Cashdan was a distinguished rabbi and scholar of Jewish interest. He served as senior Jewish chaplain in the Royal Air Force during World War II, making significant contributions to spiritual support. Later, as a senior lecturer at Jews' College, he educated a generation of British rabbis in Semitics and other Jewish academic subjects. His literary legacy includes translations and commentaries on biblical texts, as well as modern translations of prayer books and psalms, noted for their lucidity and enduring power.
