Using evidence from the Athenian Agora the authors show how objects discovered during excavations provide a vivid picture of women's lives. The book is structured according to the social roles women played: as owners of property, companions (in and outside of marriage), participants in ritual, craftspeople, producers and consumers.

Catherine Ann Cullen's interests in folklore, myth and song are everywhere evident in the poems she has published over the past decade. Collected as A Bone in My Throat (2007) and Strange Familiar (2013), her poems are drawn to stories that tell us much about ourselves, and on which our first efforts at making sense of the world are often based.
