Harry Alfred Gailey was a historian specializing in Britain's African colonies. Following World War II service in the U.S. Army Air Forces, he worked as a civil and mechanical engineer. After earning a Ph.D. in history, Gailey taught at universities before dedicating his retirement to writing about the Pacific campaigns of World War II.
