Giovanni Testori

Giovanni Testori was one of the most complex intellectual figures of the latter half of the 20th century, known as an art critic, poet, playwright, and novelist. In the 1950s, he captured the life of Milan's periphery in his cycle 'The Secrets of Milan'. For the theater, through the 'Trilogy of the Carriages' (Hamlet, Macbeth, and Oedipus), he forged a highly personal dramatic language. He continued this exploration in his sacred-themed oratorios, such as 'Conversation with Death,' 'Interrogation of Mary,' and 'Factum est,' culminating in the staged rendition of his novel 'In exitu,' one of his masterpieces. His final work, 'Tre lai,' serves as a testament bridging theater and poetry.
