Empedocles

Empedocles, a pre-Socratic Greek philosopher, is renowned for originating the theory of the four classical elements. He posited that these elements were brought together and separated by the forces of Love and Strife, weaving them into a cosmic history that also explored the origin and development of life. Influenced by Pythagorean thought, he advocated for the doctrine of reincarnation. Empedocles is notable as the last Greek philosopher to record his ideas in verse, with significant fragments of his philosophical poems surviving.
