George Lillo Books
George Lillo was an English playwright of the 18th century who diverged from traditional tragedies featuring classical or biblical heroes. Instead, he focused on the everyday lives of ordinary people, including the middle and lower classes, thereby defining the genre of domestic (bourgeois) tragedy. His most famous play explores an apprentice's internal struggle, emphasizing that common citizens were worthy subjects for dramatic downfall. Lillo, himself a jeweler by trade, combined his craft's precision with a profound concern for moral rectitude and Christian values, which permeated his works.
