John Leighton was an English artist celebrated for his intricate book illustrations and distinctive cover designs. His foundational work, 'Suggestions in Design,' articulated his profound insights into the history and principles of design. Leighton consistently revisited and applied the ornamental motifs and stylistic elements from this early publication throughout his prolific career, enriching numerous book interiors and hundreds of cover designs. He was also a pioneer in the study and promotion of ex-libris, actively contributing to the establishment of an Ex-Libris Society and editing its publication.
