A history of the 54th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, including a brief history of its predecessor the 54th Fighter Squadron which was active in World War II. Because the mission of the 54th FIS involved nuclear weapons, even in 2015 the majority of the official Air Force unit records were still treated as classified, although they had been officially declassified in November 1978. The author's primary source of information for this history was from content provided directly to him by former members of the 54th FIS who wanted the story of their fighter unit told.
