This work is a useful addition to the literature on the sciences of the Glorious Qur'an ('Ulum al-Qur'an). It provides the serious student with a good overview of some of the important topics in this field. Among the topics discussed are the following: the meaning and the history of 'Ulum al-Qur'an, the Qur'an's various titles and their significance, and the different names of certain chapters and the reasons for them. An appreciation of the Qur'anic sciences undoubtedly leads to a deeper understanding of its content. This book is a must for every student of the Qur'an and will be of deep interest to anyone wanting to know more about the Glorious Qur'an. There was a time when good Islamic literature in English was not readily available. That trend is now reversed completely. What is even more encouraging is that the volume of locally produced Islamic literature of a better standard is now becoming available to the reading and studying public. Mohammed Luqmaan Kagee's compilation on Qur'anic sciences is another step forward in publicising such knowledge that may have been accessible to a limited readership before.
