Kamo No Choomei

Kamo no Chomei was a Japanese author, poet, and essayist whose work is deeply intertwined with his personal philosophy and experiences of societal upheaval. Having faced natural and social disasters, and finding himself lacking political favor, he chose an unconventional path, renouncing worldly life to become a Buddhist hermit. He is renowned for his celebrated essay "Hōjōki" ("An Account of a Ten-Foot-Square Hut"), a seminal work in the genre of "recluse literature." His writing offers profound reflections on impermanence and the human condition, articulated through a distinctive voice shaped by solitude and keen observation.
