Salvador Dali perfekcyjnie sprzągł własną sztukę z oryginalnymi poglądami i stylem życia. Fascynował onirycznymi obrazami, publicznymi happeningami, lansowaną metodą paranoiczno-krytyczną – był fenomenem w dziejach sztuki. Jego metoda paranoiczno-krytyczna polegała na świadomym naśladowaniu przez artystę — za pomocą odpowiednich praktyk i ćwiczeń umysłowych — wizji ludzi obłąkanych. Była czymś w rodzaju symulacji stanów halucynacyjnych, a następnie ich odzwierciedleniem. Metodę tę stosował w każdej dziedzinie sztuki, jaką uprawiał.
