Stephanie S. Tolan discovered the magic of literature early, captivated by how black marks on paper could conjure entire worlds and real people. This enchantment led her to write her first story in fourth grade, solidifying her ambition to become a writer. Her literary journey included studying creative writing and earning a Master's degree in English, and she continued to write poetry and plays even amidst family life and teaching college English. Working with children in a Poets-in-the-Schools program rekindled her passion for reading's unique joy and inspired her to write for young audiences, capturing their distinct perspectives in a rapidly changing world. Tolan is also a prominent advocate and author on the challenges faced by gifted children, with her experiences with these exceptional young people significantly shaping her fictional works.
