Robert Wodrow was a Scottish minister and historian renowned as a chronicler and defender of the Covenanters. His major work meticulously documented and denounced the persecution of the Covenanters following the restoration of the monarchy in 1660. Wodrow pioneered the use of "publick records, original papers, and manuscripts of that time" in his historical research. By incorporating numerous firsthand accounts, he produced a significant martyrology that the church would later turn to during times of hardship.

This volume includes selected letters written by Scottish historian and clergyman Robert Wodrow. Spanning over 50 years, his letters offer insights into the religious and political climate of Scotland during the 17th and 18th centuries.
