Sandra Sandra Gulland wuchs in Berkeley, Kalifornien auf, wo sie auch studierte. 1970 wanderte sie nach Kanada aus, war dort zunächst Lehrerin an einer kleinen Dorfschule, bevor sie nach Ontario zog.
