Lady Sydney Morgan

Lady (Sydney) Morgan, born Owenson, was an Irish novelist and one of the most vivid and hotly discussed literary figures of her generation. She began her career with a collection of poems and Irish tunes to which she wrote lyrics, a trend later adopted with great success by Thomas Moore. Her novel "St. Clair" (1804), which explored ill-judged marriage, ill-fated love, and passionate nature-worship, clearly showed the influence of Goethe and Rousseau and immediately attracted attention. Morgan's work is characterized by its passionate style and exploration of intense emotional experiences.
