Edward Russell Ayrton

    Edward Russell Ayrton distinguished himself as an English Egyptologist and archaeologist. He began his career in Egyptology at the age of 20, assisting the pioneer of systematic archaeological methodologies, William Matthew Flinders Petrie. Ayrton joined the Egypt Exploration Fund excavations at Abydos, which commenced in 1899, working there from 1902 to 1904. His early contributions helped shape the developing field of systematic archaeological research in Egypt.
